Additional Help
You can't take two steps without stumbling across something new...
In June 2003, a group of Gibsons and district residents met with the goal of starting a Public Art Gallery.
The owners of Gibsons Quay generously supported the proposal and the gallery space was made available. Gibsons Town Council was unanimous in its support and a start-up grant of $1,000 was awarded. Volunteers donated materials and time, Gibsons Building Supplies donated track lighting, and the space was transformed with secured entries and a security alarm system.
The Gallery applied for and received BC Society Act status as a Non-Profit Society, and also Federal Charitable Tax status, to enable the Gallery to issue income tax receipts.
More than 250 memberships ($10 each) have been sold.
In the Spring of 2004 the Board of Directors engaged a Curator from the Emily Carr College of Art and Design to train and mentor volunteers in curatorial practices and the management of a public gallery. This valuable professional relationship is ongoing.
All of the Gallery's operations are managed and carried out by volunteers.

Patricia Leigh Forst has her degree in Recreation
Education from UBC. She has studied pottery and sculpture at the
Emily Carr College of Art and Design and glaze development with
internationally known potter Robin Hopper. She spent a year in
England studying at South End College of Art and Design. Pat has
exhibited both her pottery and ceramic wall murals in many solo
and group shows and has created wall murals for corporate sponsors.
She has also taught pottery courses for many years. She enjoys
the excitement of teaching and appreciates the fresh approach
her students bring to the subject.
"I have been throwing pots all my life, having started at the age of 12. By using slips and doing scraffito and carving through the slip I can create both the colour and the decoration at the same time. At the moment I am influenced by Southwest design and enjoy carving geometric designs into my pottery."
Throughout her successful career
Patricia has created a variety of ceramic pieces. Wheel thrown
pottery evolved into delicately carved porcelain pieces. These
carvings led to a bold transition where she now creates dramatic,
strongly executed wall murals. These murals have been displayed
and purchased nationally and internationally.

Forst Pottery Gallery provides an outstanding venue
to view Patricia Forst's unique style of wall murals inspired
by the contours and textures of coastal British Columbia.
Currently Patricia teaches several courses from her studio in Gibsons (for course details, see this page). She is also the Arts Programmer for the Continuing Education Program at Capilano College, Sechelt Campus.
